Pirates bounce back, beat Wolverines

  • The Pittsburg High football team got back into the Bay Valley Athletic League title race with a 42-29 win over Deer Valley on Oct. 19. Crajon Menefee had four rushing touchdowns and Jamal Lockett had a 90-yard kickoff return to lead the Pirates. Pittsburg, Deer Valley and Heritage are now part of a three-way tie for second place in the league standings with 2-1 records. Freedom, which hosts Deer Valley on Oct. 26, is in first place at 3-0.

    Patriots advance to NCS Championship

  • Heritage golfer Megan Conder earned medalist honors at the BVAL Championships on Oct. 15, shooting a 73 at Shadow Lakes Golf Club in Brentwood to win the tournament for the second straight year. Her performance helped the Patriots win the league championship and advance to the North Coast Section Division I Tournament of Champions on Oct. 29 at Windsor Golf Course.

    Patriots take third at Pinole tournament

  • The Heritage boys water polo team took third place at the Pinole Valley Invitational on Oct. 19-20 with a 10-8 win over Encinal. Walker Thaning scored five goals against Encinal and Chris Buckman added two goals as Heritage improved to 20-2 overall. During the tournament, Heritage also beat Concord 18-3 and College Park 16-6 and also lost to eventual champion Mission San Jose 8-7.

  • Deer Valley at Freedom, football, Oct. 26, 7 p.m. -- The Wolverines take on the Falcons in another critical BVAL showdown.

  • NCS Division I Tournament of Champions, golf, Oct. 29, 8 a.m. -- BVAL tournament champion Megan Conder leads Heritage into the NCS TOC at Windsor Golf Course. Amador Valley is the defending section champion.

  • Joe Mixon, Freedom football -- Had 14 carries for 142 yards and two touchdowns in Freedom's 55-9 win over Antioch. He also had one catch for 80 yards and a touchdowns, and a 68-yard punt return for a touchdown, all in the first half.
