WALNUT CREEK -- Save Mount Diablo invites K-12 students in Alameda and Contra Costa counties to enter its first scholastic photography contest to help educate the community about wildlife in the mountain's parks.
Original photos should show why students like the park lands and think they should be protected, according to a news release.
"The photo contest will showcase our amazing Diablo wilderness, support local student talent and help raise awareness about lands that are still at risk," said Beryl Anderson, communications manager for the nonprofit Save Mount Diablo organization, in a prepared statement.
Prizes include a $1,000 Apple store gift card, iPod and a student art display. The deadline is April 30 and winners will be announced the week of June 3.
