TUESDAY, Oct. 20 THEFT — At about 8:30 a.m. officers responded to a gas station on the corner of San Pablo and Marin avenues on reports that a person described as a black male adult, about 40 years old, thin build, wearing a black jacket and jeans had just stolen a wallet from a vehicle while the victim was pumping gas. The thief was last seen walking east on Marin Avenue and was gone when officers arrived. VEHICLE TOWED — Officers responded to Evelyn Avenue at about 10 a.m. on reports that three to four men in their 20's and 30's were observed sitting in a white 4-door vehicle on the block several times in the previous few months. After about an hour, they would get out and appear to be checking people's driveways and vehicles. The suspects were gone when officers arrived but the car was still there. A check found that the vehicle was registered in Michigan but that the registration had expired and the vehicle was towed. DRUG CHARGES — At about 10:15 p.m. officers received a call from campus security at Macgregor School on Jackson Street on reports that they had a 16-year-old Oakland boy in the office who smelled like marijuana and was refusing to let the principal or campus security search him. Officers arrested the youth for suspicion of possession of marijuana for sale and released him to his parent with a notice to appear. PURSE RECOVERED — A woman reported that earlier in the morning she had done a test drive of a vehicle she found on Craig's List and had left her purse on the seat. She was concerned because she kept getting an answering machine when she called the owner of the car. Officers were able to contact the car owner and the purse was returned to the woman. BIKE STOLEN — Sometime during the day a bike was stolen from a back yard on Stannage Avenue. There were no witnesses.WEDNESDAY, Oct. 21 FIGHT — Officers responded to reports of a fight at Macgregor School on Jackson Street at about 11:30 a.m. involving two students and one of the students was apparently out of control. Officers arrested the 15-year-old Albany boy for battery and released him to his parent with a notice to appear. DUI — At about 8 p.m. officers responded to reports of a vehicle collision near San Pablo and Washington Avenues. They arrested the driver, a 68-year-old El Cerrito woman, for suspicion of DUI. EGGS THROWN — During the evening hours, officers responded to reports of eggs being thrown at cars in the areas near Portland and Ramona Avenues and along Key Route Boulevard.THURSDAY, Oct. 22 DUI — Officers stopped a vehicle on Curtis Street at about 3 a.m. for a traffic violation. They arrested the driver, a 23-year-old El Cerrito woman, for suspicion of DUI. VANDALISM — Someone vandalized a retaining wall at a residence on Kains Avenue. There were no witnesses. BURGLARY — A resident on Pierce Street reported that his apartment had been burglarized.FRIDAY, Oct. 23 MORE EGGS — At about 5:30 p.m. employees at the Tay Tah Café on Solano Avenue reported that juveniles were driving by the café and throwing eggs at customers. They were gone when officers arrived. THEFT — Thieves stole a catalytic converter from a vehicle parked at 535 Pierce Street between 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. There were no witnesses. ASSAULT — At about 10:30 p.m. officers responded to the area of Masonic and Brighton Avenues on reports that a person was attacked in an attempted robbery by two teenage boys who were last seen heading toward Albany Middle School. Officers investigated and ultimately arrested a 17-year-old Berkeley boy for suspicion of assault. He was released to his parent with a notice to appear. DUI — Shortly before midnight officers stopped a vehicle near Buchanan Street and San Pablo Avenue for a traffic violation. They arrested the driver, a 24-year-old San Leandro man, for suspicion of DUI.SATURDAY, Oct. 24 BREAK-IN — During the night, vandals broke into a vehicle parked on Pomona Avenue but apparently did not take anything.SUNDAY, Oct. 25 DUI — At about 3 a.m. officers stopped a vehicle on Marin Avenue near Cornell Avenue for a traffic violation. They arrested the driver, a 62-year-old Vacaville man, for suspicion of DUI. BIKE STOLEN — During the morning hours someone stole a Dahon portable bike from a residence on Madison Street. Monday, Oct 26 ASSISTANCE — Shortly after midnight, officers responded to reports of someone moaning outside a residence on the 800 block of Cerrito Street. They located the person and paramedics transported the person to the hospital. THEFT — Someone stole tools out of a house on Stannage Avenue over the weekend. There were no witnesses. THEFT — During the night someone stole welding supplies from Albany Steel Inc. on Cleveland Avenue.— Kristina Osborn |
