EL CERRITO -- Possible traffic management measures on Colusa Avenue will be the topic of a neighborhood meeting scheduled by the city from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Dec. 15 at City Hall, 10890 San Pablo Ave.
The area being studied for ways "to create a more livable and safer environment for residents, pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists" is on Colusa between Fairmount Avenue and Terrace Drive.
Similar meetings were held to discuss measures now being implemented on Arlington Boulevard.
The Colusa Avenue meeting will include a presentation by consultant firm Fehr & Peers on current traffic conditions and short- and long-term options for addressing safety issues.
The process for a Neighborhood Traffic Management Program started with a petition submitted by residents in January 2011.
Some residents have resorted to their own measures, including putting up signs asking people to slow down. Vehicles have also been parked in ways that narrow the roadway and force traffic to slow.
An initial meeting with area residents was held in January 2012 and the process included evaluation by the city's traffic consultant and ongoing communication between staff and residents.
A notice was mailed this week to residents living within 500 feet of the study area. "This is a slightly larger area than the notice of the first meeting because of the combination of measures being considered and potential impacts on adjacent streets," the notice states.
