El Cerrito police log: A rash of auto burglaries reported; pair seeks deeper discount at Marshall's

FRIDAY, MARCH 15 DUI -- A Richmond man, 51, with an outstanding warrant for a prior related incident, was arrested for riding his bicycle while under the influence of alcohol in the 11500 block of San Pablo Avenue. A Richmond male motorist, 29, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol near Fairmount and San Pablo avenues. RECOVERED AUTO -- At 3:24 p.m., police recovered a Toyota Corolla in the 5200 block of Ernest Avenue reported stolen in Oakland almost a month prior. THEFT FROM RESIDENCE -- The rear door of a home in the 7200 block of Eureka Avenue was pried open, rooms were ransacked and a television stolen.
SATURDAY, MARCH 16 AUTO THEFT -- An Albany woman, 44, was arrested during a traffic stop at 12:47 p.m. near Potrero Avenue and South 56th Street on an outstanding warrant for stealing a vehicle in Berkeley. COMMERCIAL CRIME -- A Stockton woman, 40, and an East Palo Alto woman 41, were found in possession of suspected stolen clothing, wire cutters and clothing tags after loss prevention officers at Marshall's near the 11800 block of San Pablo Avenue observed them cutting tags off clothes and concealing the items. DUI -- A Richmond woman, 29, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after a traffic enforcement stop in the 10400 block of San Pablo Avenue. RECOVERED AUTO -- Police recovered a 1987 Toyota Corolla reported stolen in Oakland a few days prior, and a pair of stolen license plates near the 111300 block of San Pablo Avenue. SHOPLIFTING -- Police booked an Oakland woman, 52, for reported theft after security at Safeway on San Pablo Avenue reported seeing her steal $122 worth of groceries and alcohol. STOLEN AUTO -- A Richmond male parolee, 37, seen attempting to start the ignition on a stolen black Honda Accord at School and South 53rd streets, tried unsuccessfully to flee police. He was arrested for auto theft and possession of burglary tools, providing false identification and possession of credit cards that did not belong to him. THEFT FROM RESIDENCE -- A crawl space at a home in the 1100 block of Liberty Street was entered and plumbing fixtures and copper pipe were stolen.
SUNDAY, MARCH 17 BATTERY -- Officers called to remove an intoxicated Berkeley man, 21, from the Blue Moon Saloon on San Pablo Avenue arrested him for battery after he spat on an officer. An El Sobrante man, 31, was arrested for a battery warrant after police responded to a call about people arguing at a home in the 1400 block of Richmond Street. DUI -- At 2:29 p.m. an El Cerrito man, 44, was pulled over on suspicion of driving while intoxicated in the 2300 block of Humboldt Avenue. STOLEN PROPERTY -- At 3 p.m., police arrested an El Cerrito man, 55, suspected to be under the influence of alcohol, near Potrero Avenue and South 56th Street. The suspect had admitted to stealing a large bottle of vodka that still had the Safeway security cap on it and was concealed in his pants. THEFT FROM AUTO -- The passenger window of a Nissan in the 2200 block of Carquinez Avenue was broken and a purse stolen. Electronics were taken from an unlocked Mini Cooper in the 400 block of Colusa Avenue. In the 6200 block of Jordan Avenue, an estimated $100 worth of tools was stolen after the culprit broke a rear window on a Toyota, and someone pried open a toolbox in a truck bed, stealing roughly $300 worth of tools. The rear window was broken on a GMC utility van in the 7200 block of View Drive, but no entry was gained. VEHICLE VANDAL -- Graffiti was painted on the driver's side door of a vehicle in the 800 block of Elm Street.
MONDAY, MARCH 18 BATTERY -- Just after 8:11 a.m., police arrested a San Pablo man, 22, on the BART path near Blake Street after he struck an officer in the face when he was being detained after trying to flee. The suspect also was found in possession of a concealed knife. ILLEGAL TOOLS -- A Richmond male cyclist, 35, who was on probation, was arrested after burglary tools, including a battery-powered band saw, were found in his possession. THEFT FROM AUTO -- At 3:45 a.m. the side window on a Ford van in the 5900 block of Fern Street was broken and an air compressor was stolen. A tire was stolen from a vehicle in the 400 block of Albemarle Street.
