OAKLAND -- Candidates who intend to run for a countywide office in Alameda County during the Nov. 6 election have until July 26 to obtain the necessary "signatures-in-lieu" paperwork if they want to avoid paying a filing fee by instead gathering signatures.
In addition, the deadline to file nomination documents, as well as a declaration of candidacy for office, is Aug. 10. In the event that an incumbent fails to file for re-election, the nomination period for that office is extended until Aug. 15 for any candidate other than the current officeholder. Signatures-in-lieu forms and nomination documents are available at the Alameda County Registrar of Voters office, 1225 Fallon St., Room G-1, in Oakland. Candidates for municipal offices should contact the city clerk in their cities for information on obtaining nomination documents. A listing of the offices on the Nov. 6 General Election ballot may be found on the Registrar of Voters website, http://www.acgov.org/rov. For more information, contact the Registrar of Voters office at 510-272-6933.
