Universal Pictures Tippi Hedren frets that getting involved with Rod Taylor in "The Birds" would result in a fly-by-night affair.

BODEGA BAy takes center stage in Orinda tonight. Mull that a moment.

Alfred Hitchcock found the coastal community the perfect nesting area (couldn't resist) for his 1963 thriller "The Birds" — about our flying friends growing so unfriendly that they attack gorgeous Tippi Hedren, her manly costar Rod Taylor and a gaggle of extras.

Tippen slips into the Bay Area this week to take part in a host of "Birds"-related tributes at Orinda Theatre Square.

The star of "The Birds" and "Marnie," Hedren took part in a Thursday ceremony unveiling the first-ever celebrity star — hers — scheduled for the Walk of Fame being created in the square's steps.

Sponsored by the California Independent Film Festival, which is relocating to the Orinda venue, the actress will share inside stories and answer questions about the making of "The Birds" as part of special event that includes a screening of the picture, beginning at 7 tonight at the Orinda Theater, 2 Orinda Theatre Square (by the Orinda exit off Highway 24).

The effects aren't the greatest, especially by today's standards, but they're frightening enough to make you think twice before teasing Polly with a cracker.

Tickets, at $20 adult, $15 students, are available at the Orinda and Rheem box offices or by contacting 925-277-1355 or www.caiff.org.
