The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a kayaker who sent a distress call Thursday afternoon after failing to make it back to shore in rough seas near Pacific Grove.

Executive Officer Noah Hudson said the call for help came at about 1:45 p.m.

"The information we received was that the kayaker was approximately three-quarters of a mile off the coast at Lovers Point, and he felt like the waters had become too rough for him to make it back to shore," Hudson said. "We launched a crew that located him, determined that he was not hypothermic, and brought him back to Monterey Harbor in our 47-foot motor lifeboat."

Hudson said the kayaker did not require medical assistance.
