Here are some of the trades the Giants have made before the July trade deadline.
July 30, 2011 -- The Giants trade OF Thomas Neal to Cleveland for INF Orlando Cabrera. The Giants were three games ahead at the time. Outcome: Neal, 24, still in minors. Cabrera hit .222 for Giants and retired in January.
July 28, 2011 -- The Giants trade RHP Zack Wheeler to New York Mets for OF Carlos Beltran. The Giants were four games ahead at the time. Outcome: Beltran hit .323 with seven homers in 44 games, but it wasn't enough to get the Giants back to the playoffs. He signed with the St. Louis Cardinals during the offseason. Wheeler is one of the top pitching prospects in the game.
July 19, 2011 -- The Giants trade RHPs Jason Stoffel and Henry Sosa to Houston for INF Jeff Keppinger. The Giants were 4½ games up at the time. Outcome: Keppinger failed to make much impact down the stretch and is now with Tampa Bay. Neither of the prospects has contributed for the Astros.
July 31, 2010 -- The Giants trade 1B John Bowker and RHP Joe Martinez to Pittsburgh for LHP Javier Lopez, and trade RHP Daniel Turpen to Boston for RHP Ramon Ramirez. The Giants were 1½ games behind at the time. Outcome: Lopez and Ramirez were key cogs in the bullpen as the Giants went on to win the World Series.
July 27, 2009 -- The Giants trade
Outcome: Sanchez played in less than half of Giants remaining games because of injuries and hit .284. Alderson still in minors.
Other memorable July deals

Outcome: Schmidt was 7-1, 3.39 down stretch, but the Giants finished two games out in the NL West. Over the next five years, Schmidt was 71-36 for the Giants. Vander Wal hit .252 after he trade and left for the New York Yankees at the end of the season. Vogelsong is back as a key member of the rotation.
July 31, 1997: The Giants trade pitchers Keith Foulke, Bobby Howry, Lorenzo Barcelo and Ken Vining, outfielder Brian Manning and shortstop Mike Caruso to the White Sox for LHP Wilson Alvarez and righties Roberto Hernandez and Danny Darwin. The Giants were a half-game up at the time.
Outcome: Hernandez was 5-2 with four saves while sharing closing duties with Rod Beck. Alvarez went 4-3. Both players left after season. Darwin played for Giants in 1998, then retired. Outcome: Dravecky was 7-5, 3.20 and became one of the most popular Giants in later years. Lefferts was 3-3 with a 3.23 ERA in relief. Mitchell hit .306 with 15 HR and 44 RBI in 69 games. Two years later, Mitchell was voted NL MVP as the Giants went to the World Series. Davis won the 1989 NL Cy Young with the Padres.
