To earn election, a player must be named on 75 percent of the ballots submitted by members of the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Order is based on vote totals of 19 members of the BBWAA who are reporters or editors at Digital First Media properties. To gain entry to the Hall a player needs to be named on 75 percent of the overall BBWAA ballots submitted.
