Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval was diagnosed Monday with ulnar neuritis in his right arm, an inflammation of the nerve that runs through the elbow, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Sandoval, who was scratched from the lineup Sunday because of soreness in his elbow, is expected to get rest and treatment and be re-evaluated later this week.

The Giants had the day off Monday, not practicing nor playing a Cactus League game. They return to action against the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. in Peoria, Ariz. The game will be televised on tape-delay by MLB Network at 9 p.m.
