East Bay officials rushed to keep up with the heightened demand for swine flu vaccine Thursday, holding a drive-through clinic in San Pablo and making last-minute changes in clinic schedules.

Doctors Medical Center gave free shots to motorists who fit within its priority groups. The hospital will hold a second drive-through clinic from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in its rear parking lot at 2000 Vale Road in San Pablo.

Unlike county clinics that will serve mainly children, pregnant women and caregivers of newborns, the Doctors Medical Center clinic will be open to young people ages 6 months to 24 years, and those ages 25 to 65 who have chronic medical conditions that put them at high-risk, including lung disease, diabetes and heart disease.

Contra Costa County announced that for logistical reasons it has canceled a Nov. 14 clinic planned at Somersville Towne Center in Antioch. The county will reschedule a clinic at another East County location in the near future, spokeswoman Kate Fowlie said.

Solano County, which had run out of vaccine, received an additional shipment and scheduled a clinic from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. today at 250 Georgia St. in Vallejo.
