West Contra Costa school district leaders will meet Saturday with city council members from all five West County cities to talk about improving safety on campuses, at home and in the community.

The school board and the cities of El Cerrito, Hercules, Pinole, Richmond and San Pablo will provide brief reports on their challenges and strategies. Participants will work in small groups to talk about how to better collaborate on violence prevention, gang intervention, neighborhood watch, improving facilities for safety and character development. Findings will be considered for implementation.

The meeting is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at DeJean Middle School's multipurpose room, 3400 Macdonald Ave. in Richmond. County Supervisor John Gioia and local state representatives also will participate.

It is open to the public. Limited time will be allowed for public comment, officials said.
