Byron Thomas and Isaac Goins combined on three long touchdown passes in the first half to propel host El Cerrito High's football team to a 30-12 Alameda Contra Costa Athletic League win over Hercules.
El Cerrito's win, combined with Berkeley's 13-10 loss to Pinole Valley, gave the Gauchos (7-3, 5-1) a share of the ACCAL title with the Yellowjackets.
El Cerrito (7-3 overall) wasted no time in taking the early lead. Thomas connected with Goins on a 42-yard scoring pass on the Gauchos first drive.
After Hercules (3-7, 1-5) answered with a touchdown on its first drive, a 9-yard pass from Kevin Fortich to Anthony MacFarlin, the hot Gaucho pair hooked up again.
This time it was a 30-yard strike on the same play that worked on the earlier score, giving El Cerrito a 12-6 lead.
The lead reached 18-6 in the second quarter when Goins took a short hitch pass from Thomas and raced down the sidelines for a 52-yard touchdown pass.
St. Patrick-St. Vincent 38, Piedmont 20: Quarterback Brandon Brown completed 8 of 16 passes for 239 yards and two touchdowns and ran ran for another as the host Bruins (7-3, 5-2 BSAL) rolled to a win over Piedmont in the Bay Shore Athletic League.
Both teams lost key players early. St. Patrick's top runner Naji Patrick left the game with an injury in the first half while Piedmont quarterback Cormac Craigie suffered a second quarter ankle sprain and was out for the
Still, St. Patrick was effective through the air. Brown threw a 56-yard touchdown pass to Brenzel Guillory to give the Bruins a 12-0 lead midway through the first quarter. After Piedmont fought back to take a 14-12 lead in the second, Brown hit Danny Souza for a 90 yard touchdown, giving the Bruins the lead for good.
Before he was injured, Cragie ran for a 1-yard score and hit Joey Andrada from 20 yards out for a touchdown. Robby Inch scored on an 89-yard kick return for Piedmont.

Albany 40, John Swett 21: Third-quarter fumble recoveries by Cougars defensive lineman Ed Kim and linebacker Andrew Spivey set up short touchdowns to break open a tight game with the host Indians (3-7, 1-6 BSAL).
Thomas Rocroi's 26-yard field goal with nine second remaining in the first half gave the Cougars (3-7, 2-5) a 15-14 halftime lead, and they never relinquished the advantage.
Spivey paced the Cougars' offense, throwing for one touchdown and running for another. He passed for 180 yards, and senior running back Levy Wilson ran 51 yards for a final-minute score.
Running back Evan Ray closed his Indians' career with two touchdowns and 226 yards on the ground.

Salesian 43, CSD 0: The host Pride scored 22 first-quarter points and rolled to an easy victory over the Eagles, securing yet another Bay Football League title Friday.
Junior running back Aaron Prier scored both times he touched the ball for Salesian (9-1, 5-0 BFL). The shifty tailback scored on a 25-yard run and added a 55-yard burst as Salesian geared up for the postseason by resting most of its starters in the second half.
Running backs Greyson Schultz and Antonio Lara added touchdown runs as Salesian rolled to 301 yards of total offense. Schultz finished with 9 carries for 88 yards and Lara had 10 for 86.
CSD quarterback Carlos Lopez completed 14 of 27 passes for 160 yards but was intercepted three times, twice by Salesian defensive back Chris Baker. He returned his second pick 90 yards for a score in the second quarter.
The game marked the first time a football game at Salesian was played at night. The school brought in portable lights.

The King's Academy 50, Jefferson 43: Visiting Jefferson almost pulled out a huge upset before falling short on the final play of the game.
TKA quarterback Joe Phillips' 1-yard keeper broke a 43-43 tie with 45 seconds left. Jefferson marched all the way up the field, but Ezekiel Nunu's pass to Kyani Harris was knocked down by a defender on the Knights' 3-yard line on the game's final play
Jefferson's first-half highlight was a 94-yard kickoff return by Harris. Jefferson tied it 43-43 after Bernard Deberry's touchdown and Simi Kofe's two-point conversion with 8:17 left.

Berean Christian 25, Harker-San Jose 13: Logan Lisle rushed for 128 yards scoring three times to lead the Eagles over host Harker in Bay Football League action. Lisle outraced Harker defenders on a series of sweeps spearheading scoring drives of 60 and 80 to put the Eagles up 12-7 at halfime. Two drive ending interceptions by linebacker Devon Alexander shut down Harkers prospects of a comeback as the Eagles pulled ahead on Lisle's third score and the final touchdown by Dominic Lonardo (123).

Tracy 52, Lodi 7: Depray Celestine and Casey Wichman gave the Wayne Schneider Stadium fans a game to remember as they led Tracy out to a 31-0 halftime lead on the way to claiming the San Joaquin Athletic Association championship and giving the Bulldogs their first 10-0 start since 1986.
Wichman — at times looking more like a fullback than a quarterback — scored on the second play of the game on a 40-yard run and added a 2-yard scoring plunge in the second quarter. The speedy Celestine (nine carries, 152 yards) raced to a 69-yard touchdown on the last play of the first quarter and rifled a 79-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Williams for the 31-0 halftime lead.

West 48, Tokay-Lodi 47: Jake Peterson's 10-yard touchdown pass to Darin Fleming with 1:10 left in the game followed by his conversion toss to Desean Watson capped a miraculous comeback for West in Tri-City Athletic League action at the Grape Bowl.
With Wolf Pack standout Dexter Alcala forced to sit out his team's finale due to a high ankle sprain, the tandem of Peterson and Patrick Phillips helped West battle back from a 47-20 third quarter deficit.
Phillips (seven receptions, 171 yards) caught fourth-quarter touchdown passes of 61, 4 and 31 yards from Peterson (22-of-39 passing, 391 yards) to go with a 14-yard score from the pair in the first half.

Girls tennis
OAL championships: Unseeded Shirley Ma of Skyline edged teammate and No. 1 seed Cindy Chan 7-5, 6-4 to win the Oakland Athletic League singles title at Laney College.
"I really enjoyed the match," said Ma, a senior. "I wasn't very nervous and I was used to playing my opponent."
Ma beat teammate Laura Duong 6-4, 7-5 in the semifinals.
