Hayward 35, San Lorenzo 20: Hayward, seizing opportunities caused by turnovers, defeated San Lorenzo to secure second place in the Hayward Area Athletic League.
The Farmers, (8-2, 6-1 HAAL) recovered two onsides kicks and caught two interceptions, all of which led to scores. Leading the Rebels (6-4, 5-2) 21-13 at the half, Hayward came out and scored two quick touchdowns.
Their potent running attack featured power—in the form of Amani Stockstill ( 18 rushes, 162 yards, two touchdowns) and speed--speedy tailback Carl Yates scored three touchdowns. Yates scored on runs of 38, 26 and three yards, and Stockstill scored scored on runs of 29 and three yards.
The Farmers' swarming defense was led by linebacker Jacob Finau (12 tackles, 2 sacks) and safety Dillion Pereira (two interceptions).
San Lorenzo quarterback Nick Stewart connected on 11 of 21 passes for 163 yards, including a 24-yard touchdown to Eric Johnson, and fullback Anese Noa scored twice on short runs of 1 and 2 yards.
