Alex Kalustian had three kills and Dipen Patel came off the bench to record a timely ace to help the host College Park High boys volleyball team overcome a 9-7 deficit in the fifth game and beat San Ramon Valley 25-27, 27-25, 25-15, 17-25, 15-13 in a North Coast Section Division I quarterfinal on Friday.
College Park's victory marked the second time this season that it has beaten San Ramon Valley (22-9) in five games. The Falcons beat the Wolves three games to two on March 13.
Fourth-seeded College Park (22-7) advances to Wednesday's Division I semifinals, where it will face the winner of Saturday's match between No. 8 James Logan and No. 1 De La Salle.
"We had been there before and the guys were able to focus, stay disciplined and stick to the game plan," College Park coach Steve Drevno said. "I'm so proud of the way they played with heart, dignity and pride."
Leading two games to one, the Falcons appeared to be headed towards a victory, but Joseph Grosh kept the match alive for the fifth-seeded Wolves with five of his match-high 23 kills in the fourth game. Grosh also ended a 4-0 College Park run in the fifth game to narrow the gap to 11-10.
Nelson Fisher had 39 assists for College Park, and teammates Charles Liu, Bo Hunter and Kalustian combined for 34 kills.
