Junior Peter Mitchell and senior DeShawn Johnson combined to rack up 261 yards on the ground as the visiting Dons powered past the Titans in the 2012 season opener for both teams Friday.

Johnson led all rushers with 158 yards on 21 carries and scored two second-half touchdowns to lead Acalanes (1-0), which rolled to nearly 400 yards of total offense against Hercules (0-1).

Mitchell, who finished with 103 yards on 11 carries, scored two TDs and Aaron Edwards added a four-yard TD run in the second quarter to help the Dons.

The Dons limited Hercules to 24 yards on the ground on 24 attempts. The Titans moved the ball mostly through the air with the quarterback combination of Louis Michael and Antwin Prowers.

The Hercules quarterbacks were intercepted four times, however. The Titans finally broke through with less than a minute remaining when Marquis Davenport bolted over for a score from one yard out.

The Dons pulled away after the intermission with 21 unanswered points. Defensive back John Lauth had two picks for Acalanes. Andrew Bosshart and Brett Merrill had the other interceptions.
