The California High School football team's rushing attack lived up to its preseason hype as the Grizzlies ran for 321 yards, including 172 on only eight carries from standout Karris Johnson, in a blowout 40-7 nonleague victory against visiting Washington.

Johnson set the tone early with an 86-yard touchdown run on the first California play from scrimmage. He added a 65-yard scoring rush on the first play of the Grizzlies' third drive to help his team build a 17-0 lead before the second quarter began.

"My offensive line blocked really well," Johnson said of his 86-yard opening play. "There was a wide-open opening right when I got to the sideline. It felt really good."

Johnson also added a touchdown on an 18-yard reception from quarterback Cameron Owen.

Washington's lone highlight came in the middle of the second quarter when the Huskies put together a 16-play drive that was capped by an 8-yard touchdown run from Eddie Adams.

The drive accounted for 80 of the Huskies' 165 total yards of offense.
