Hayward 42, Ygnacio Valley 22: The Farmers rolled to a convincing season-opening win over the Warriors at Sunset Field.

Ygnacio Valley quarterback Jamari Pope threw for 123 yards and ran for 78 and two scores in the first half, but Hayward held the Warriors to just six points in the second half.

Leading the Hayward offense was running back Dana Carter, who had seven carries for 158 yards and four touchdowns. Carter scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Apart from Pope, Ygnacio Valley had only 94 yards on 27 carries. The Farmer defense prevent any big passing plays and also forced a late turnover, their second of the night, to seal the win.
