The Highlanders put their game against Albany in the hands of quarterback Spencer Kim, and the junior did not let them down.
Kim completed 11 of his 14 pass attempts for 154 yards and two touchdowns to lead Piedmont, which improved its record to 2-1. Albany fell to 0-3.
The game looked like it would be a battle of running attacks as both teams tried to establish dominance on the ground. Piedmont scored on the first play of the game when Kyle Dalton rambled 68 yards for a touchdown.
Trailing 7-0, Albany drove 30 yards on nine plays -- eight on the ground -- and took six minutes off the clock. Albany tied the game in the second quarter on a 26-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Nick Sternad to running back Michael Rabin.
Piedmont scored on its next drive on a 34-yard strike from Kim to Jake Pacheco and following an interception, the two hooked up again, this time on a 9-yard scoring strike. Piedmont took a 21-7 lead into the half and proceeded to put the game away in the third quarter.
Piedmont's William Meredith returned a punt 70 yards for a score after Albany's first possession of the half. The Highlanders followed that up with a pair of touchdown runs by Michael Tam on their next two drives to lead 42-7 after three quarters. Albany scored late in the fourth on a 24-yard run by Brandon Stephens.
