POSITION: Wide receiver/defensive back
THE STAT LINE: Daniels, a Washington commit, has been as good as advertised to begin the season. In a loss to Franklin-Elk grove last week, he scored on a 37-yard pass and returned an interception 27 yards for a score. In three games, Daniels already has scored eight touchdowns and a two-point conversion, giving him 50 points.
SCHOOL: Moreau Catholic
THE STAT LINE: Kinast completed 16 of his 25 passes for 211 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for a team-high 85 yards and two touchdowns in the Mariners' 45-24 victory over Mt. Eden. He accounted in part for 79 percent of Moreau Catholic's offense in the game.
SCHOOL: St. Joseph Notre Dame
POSITION: Middle blocker
THE STAT LINE: Grunt slammed 19 kills and also had eight blocks and two aces in the Pilots' 25-27, 28-30, 25-21, 25-18, 15-11 win over Marin Academy-San Rafael. She added 17 kills, five blocks and eight digs in St. Joseph Notre Dame's 25-21, 25-23, 25-21 victory over University-S.F.
THE STAT LINE: Seidemann was the Cougars' offensive leader when they won the Acalanes Invitational. She scored 12 goals in four tournament games, including three in a 8-7 victory over San Ramon Valley in the championship match.
KARRIS JOHNSON, California, football, Sr. -- Johnson has been the workhorse in Cal's 3-0 start. In last week's win over Castro Valley, he rushed for 74 yards and a touchdown and also returned a kickoff 78 yards for a score. In three games, Johnson has 370 rushing yards and seven total touchdowns.
KEILAN BENJAMIN, El Cerrito, football, Jr. -- Benjamin completed 15 of his 21 passes for 242 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in the Gauchos' 64-8 victory over Kennedy-Richmond. He also rushed for 45 yards and a touchdown.
ANA ASCENCIO, Holy Names, volleyball, Sr. -- Ascencio produced 10 kills and six aces in a 25-16, 25-12, 25-10 victory over Skyline. She also had 12 kills in a loss to St. Mary's.
JENA PIANIN, Amador Valley, cross country, Sr. -- Pianin set a girls meet record in the senior race of the Monte Vista Invitational. Pianin's time of 12 minutes, 14.43 seconds on the hilly two-mile course broke the previous record by nearly nine seconds.
