Despite running just 16 plays in the first half, compared to 41 for the Hornets, the Matadors rolled to a big road win using the big play.

Miramonte (2-2) has now scored 134 points in its last three games.

"We've gone to this open offense and found we can put a lot of points on the board," Miramonte coach Jack Schram said. "Our offense has been hard to stop, we've got a great scheme and it fits the kids well."

Answering an Alameda (1-2) opening drive that went 80 yards on nine plays, ending in a James Knight 12-yard run, the Mats scored less than two minutes later.

On third and long Nick Sheehan scampered 28 yards for a score, and he had two touchdown passes, a 59-yarder to Zati Williams and then a 35-yard strike down the left sideline to Marshall Deutz. Sandwiched between this was a Conor Bruen 20-yard interception return as the visitors led 28-7 at halftime and never looked back.

That was one of four picks for a Miramonte defense that did not let the Hornets back inside the 20.

Knight was a bright spot for the home team, rushing for 121 yards.
