Protecting a 19-14 lead with just over five minutes to go, the Highlander defense needed to make a play as the Indians lined up for fourth down and three. Swett fumbled the snap, giving the ball back to Piedmont's offense, which capitalized with a 37-yard touchdown run by Kyle Dalton on the ensuing play to ice the game for the home victory.

Piedmont's (3-1) defense blanked the Indians (1-3) on offense, limiting them to 32 rushing yards in a game the Highlanders led 13-7 at the half.

After a scoreless first quarter, Swett took a 7-0 lead when Demetrius Trim returned a fumble 29 yards after a sack of Piedmont quarterback Spencer Kim. The Highlanders tied the score on the next series on a six-yard rushing touchdown by Ryan Ellis. A short pass from Kim to William Meredith turned into a 76-yard scoring run for a six-point halftime lead.

Trim, who accounted for all the Indians' points, provided Swett a 14-13 lead in the early minutes of the third quarter when he intercepted a blocked pass for a 45-yard return.

The Highlanders built their 19-14 lead on 42 and 30-yard field goals by Ale Chiodo.
