FREMONT — After scoring just seven points in its first two games, the Washington High football team has erupted for 79 points in its last two — including Thursday’s 54-0 Mission Valley Athletic League win over Mission San Jose at Tak Fudenna Stadium.

Washington (2-2, 1-0 MVAL) struck for a trio of touchdowns in the first quarter and four more in the second as it took a commanding 47-0 lead into the half.

Washington quarterback Kyle Malpede was 9 of 13 passing with 129 yards and two touchdowns.

Brandon Sewell was his top target with five receptions for 105 yards and two touchdowns. The first was a 25-yard strike that gave Washington a 7-0 lead with 10:25 left in the first quarter. The second was a 27-yarder that capped a six-play, 54-yard drive and gave the Huskies a 34-0 lead with 8:36 left in the second quarter.

Washington’s Nate Woudstra had 12 carries for 77 yards and two touchdowns. Teammate Eddie Adams had 60 yards rushing on 11 carries and scored two touchdowns.

Washington’s defense held Mission San Jose (1-3, 0-1) to just 101 yards (76 yards rushing) in its first shutout of the season.

Mission San Jose, which got 55 yards rushing from Ismail Shafi, has now lost 41 straight MVAL games.
