Devante McGowan ran for 112 yards and a touchdown and Khalil Thomas added 64 rushing yards and two more scores to lead the host Mt. Eden High football team to a 35-6 nonleague win over Mt. Diablo on Friday afternoon.

Mt. Eden (3-2) jumped to a fast start and never looked back. McGowan scored the first touchdown on a 3-yard run with 2:53 left in the first quarter, a play set up nicely by Justin Gindlesberger's 32-yard run two plays earlier.

The Monarchs' lead grew to 14-0 just 23 seconds later when Gindlesberger ran in from 3-yards after Koa Sibley's recovery of a Mt. Diablo fumble.

Both of Thomas's touchdowns came in the second quarter, the first on a 14-yard run, the next on a 7-yard jaunt to open a 28-0 lead.

Mt. Diablo (2-2) got its only score on a 73-yard pass play from Austin Hunt to Darneail Jenkins with 51 seconds left in the half.

Mt. Eden quarterback Jonathan Sturholm completed the scoring on 13-yard keeper with 3:46 left in the game.

Hunt passed for 203 yards for the Red Devils. Teammate Daniyl Hawkins finished with seven catches for 61 yards.
