The visiting Cougars (3-1, 1-0 Mission Valley Athletic League) were extremely well-grounded in their victory over the Vikings (1-3, 0-1 MVAL).
Mark Morton gained 91 yards on 13 carries and scored three touchdowns and Marty Leggett ran for 104 yards as Newark Memorial completely dominated the Vikings.
It took just three plays for Newark Memorial to score its first touchdown when Morton ran 45 yards up the middle with just 55 seconds gone in the game.
Three Irvington plays resulted in minus yardage and the Cougars took over on the Vikings 30. Newark took seven plays to score, with Morton plunging two yards for his second touchdown.
After an Irvington punt, the Cougars drove 43 yards in eight plays with Morton scoring his third touchdown on another two-yard run with 39.4 seconds left in the first quarter.
Newark Memorial got its only score of the second quarter when quarterback Riley Pivin threw a 61-yard pass to Fred Tidwell. Pivin also threw a 10-yard TD pass to Robert Ramirez in the third quarter.
