: Concord has won its five nonleague games by an average of nearly 35 points, but should be tested by a Northgate team off to a great start of its own. Northgate's powerful rushing game -- led by Fisi Tavake, Eric Haynes and Jimmy Sharpe -- is averaging 331 yards. The Minutemen are just as strong on the ground with Washington State-committed RB Olito Thompson leading the way. But it's been the development of QB Wyatt Morrow (834 yards, 10 TDs) that's really had the Concord offense rolling the last few weeks. The Minutemen have defeated the Broncos in Diablo Valley Athletic League play each of the last four seasons.
A closer look: The Mustangs shook off their loss to Foothill two weeks ago to crush Granada 48-21 last week. The game was close at halftime before Monte Vista outscored the Matadors 28-7 in the second half. The Grizzlies share first place in the East Bay Athletic League after last week's 36-7 thrashing of contending Foothill. Cal allowed the Falcons only 104 yards of offense in that victory. The Grizzlies offense has been clicking, averaging 37.8 points per game and has scored at least 31 points in each game.

A closer look: Since a 41-14 loss to St. Helena on Sept. 14, the Braves have dominated their last two opponents. They scored at least 33 points and allowed no more than eight points in victories over St. Elizabeth and Emery. Tomales' Anthony Feliciano has rushed for 755 yards and 14 touchdowns this season. The Eagles have a workhorse of their own in senior Brian Freeman, who has rushed for 891 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, according to CSD athletic director Kevin Kovacs. Freeman is 33 yards shy of the school career rushing record, according to coach Warren Keller.
A closer look: These teams meet in league play for the first time since 1995, when they were in the Alameda Contra Costa Athletic League. Both are defending league champions. The Dragons won the Hayward Area Athletic League last year and the Jets won the Bay Shore Athletic League. Both teams are also riding two-game winning streaks and are coming off wins over West Alameda County Conference-Shoreline Division teams. O'Dowd took down Arroyo 21-7 and Encinal edged Alameda 22-15 in the Island Bowl. The Dragons will be without starting quarterback Dominic Miroglio for the second straight week with a shoulder injury. Backup Kevin King remains out with a concussion, so sophomore Chris Hagmaier will start.
