Friday BVAL

  • Heritage (0-6, 0-1) at Antioch (5-1, 0-1), 7 p.m.

  • Deer Valley (5-1, 1-0) at Liberty (2-4, 0-1), 7 p.m.

  • Freedom (4-2, 1-0) at Pittsburg (4-2, 1-0), 7 p.m.

    DFAL

  • Las Lomas (3-4, 2-1) at Campolindo (5-1, 2-0), 7 p.m.

    A closer look

: The Cougars received some bad news earlier in the week, learning that standout quarterback Brett Stephens is out for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury. Andrew Zolintakis is expected to take Stephens' place under center. He and the Cougars will have to adjust quickly, as they face a Las Lomas defense that held Dublin to just 78 total yards last week.

  • Alhambra (2-4, 1-1) at Dublin (4-3, 2-1), 7 p.m.

    EBAL

  • California (5-1, 2-1) at San Ramon Valley (3-3, 3-0), 7 p.m.

    A closer look

: With the Grizzlies losing 44-26 to Monte Vista last week, San Ramon Valley moved into sole possession of first place in the EBAL after its 22-7 win over Granada. Whether California can match its defensive intensity from a 36-7 rout of Foothill two weeks ago could prove key. The Grizzlies are averaging 35.9 points a game but allowing 24.5. The Wolves feature TE/LB Ryan Dunn, an Arizona commit, sophomore receiver JJ Koske -- who has 12 catches for 300 yards in the past three games -- and junior RB Marcus de la Pena.

  • Foothill (3-3, 1-1) at Granada (3-3, 0-2), 7 p.m.

    A closer look

: The Huskies are looking for their fifth win in a row. During its four-game winning streak, Washington has averaged 39.2 points per game. Quarterback Kyle Malpede completed 21 of his 26 passes for 324 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in the Huskies' 50-29 victory over Kennedy-Fremont last week. The Mariners had won three straight before a 40-7 loss to Newark Memorial on Sept. 28.

    WACC-Foothill

  • Castro Valley (3-3, 1-0) at Bishop O'Dowd (5-1, 1-0), 7 p.m.

    A closer look

: This should be an interesting battle, particularly the Trojans offense versus the Dragons defense. Castro Valley has averaged 32.2 points per game this season. In last week's 48-39 victory over San Leandro, both Demareyeh Lane and Robert Taylor rushed for more than 170 yards. The Bishop O'Dowd defense has allowed a total of seven points to its last two opponents (Arroyo and Encinal).

  • Encinal (4-3, 0-1) at Berkeley (1-4, 1-0), 7 p.m.

  • Hayward (2-4, 0-1) vs. San Leandro (0-6, 0-1) at Chabot College, 7 p.m.

In a 48-20 victory over Mission San Jose last week, Mark Morton and Marty Leggett combined for 275 yards rushing. The Colts lost 20-13 in overtime to Del Oro-Loomis on Sept. 28, but James Logan has been dominant against North Coast Section competition this season.
