Zach Boyett threw four touchdown passes and De'Angelo Hernandez ran for 204 yards and one score as the Salesian High football team beat rival St. Mary's 42-26 in a Tri-County Athletic League Rock Division game on Friday night at Laney College.
Boyett completed all 10 passing attempts, throwing scoring passes of 38 and 30 yards to Tyrone Morgan, and 24 and 50 yards to Trevor Morgan.
St. Mary's quarterback Kevin Flemer also threw four touchdown passes, three (33, 9, 5) to Caleb Coleman. Flemer's other TD pass was a 15-yarder to Erik Phillip.
Flemer completed 23 of 47 passes for 272 yards.
Despite all the offensive fireworks, the Salesian defense stopped St. Mary's (3-4, 1-2 TCAL Rock) on three drives inside its own 10-yard line.
Salesian (7-1, 3-1) maintained a 20-13 lead at the half when Flemer fourth-down pass to Coleman was broken up at the Pride 10 with 27.6 seconds left.
Salesian took the lead in the second period when Boyett threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Trevor Thomas with 5:09 left and Hernandez ran in the two-point conversion.
St. Mary's had taken a 13-12 lead just three plays earlier with Flemer threw a 33-yard scoring pass to Coleman with 6:35 remaining in the half.
Salesian took a 12-6 lead in the first quarter when Kameron Carr ran six yards for a score with 1:32 left. The Pride drove 94 yards in seven plays, with Hernandez running 51 yards to the Panthers' 9 to set up the score.
The Panthers took a 6-0 lead in the first period when Andrew Abrams recovered a fumble on Salesian's first play from scrimmage and Flemer drove St. Mary's 61 yards in nine plays, throwing a 15-yard scoring pass to Phillip with 8:30 left.
Hernandez ran nine times for 117 yards in the first half for Salesian. Flemer was 14 of 24 for 147 in the first half for the Panthers.
