BRENTWOOD -- Quarterback Nsimba Webster completed just six passes for the Deer Valley High football team on Friday night in its Bay Valley Athletic League game against host Liberty.

Fortunately for the Wolverines, those passes totaled 277 yards and accounted for three touchdowns in their 38-7 victory that saw Deer Valley (6-1, 2-0 BVAL) build a 38-0 lead midway through the third quarter.

The Wolverines scored on their first four drives: a 69-yard pitch-and-catch from Webster to wide receiver Deon Pruitt on the first play from scrimmage, an 84-yard touchdown sweep down the left sideline by running back Shane Pooler, a 42-yard touchdown catch-and-run on a quick strike pass by slot receiver Lee Ward, and a 26-yard field goal by kicker Christian Quintanilla.

Deer Valley added two more touchdowns to the scoreboard in the second half on a 2-yard dive by Pooler (10 carries, 120 yards) and a 79-yard catch by receiver Lavalle Hamlin.

Liberty (2-5, 0-2) got on the board with a 30-yard touchdown sprint by backup quarterback Ivan Oseguera with 7:20 left in the game. Oseguera also led the team in receptions and rushing yards, as he hauled in six catches for 81 yards and carried the ball seven times for 45 yards. Starting quarterback Cody Suckow was 10 for 22 for 119 yards but was intercepted twice and sacked six times before being replaced by Oseguera.
