Zati Williams caught four first-half touchdowns passes from quarterback Drew Anderson, and the defense for the Miramonte High football team allowed 38 yards of total offense in the first half to beat host Tennyson 35-7 in the opening round of the North Coast Section Division III playoffs on Saturday.

Williams caught touchdown passes of 52, 7, 71 and 5 yards as the No. 7 seeded Miramonte (7-4) stormed to a 28-0 halftime lead over No. 10 Tennyson (9-2). The Matadors now travel to face No. 2 Marin Catholic in the quarterfinals next Saturday at 1 p.m.

"We just tried to take what they were giving us and there were no safeties over the top," said Williams about Tennyson's defense. "So, we decided to go deep and stuck with it."

Williams finished with four catches for 135 yards and the four scores. Miramonte opened the scoring when Anderson found Williams down the right sideline for a 52-yard strike on the first play of Miramonte's second possession. Williams ended the Matadors next three-play drive with a 7-yard catch with 3:21 seconds left in the first quarter.

Marshall Duetz set up Miramonte's second score with a 58-yard punt return that put the ball at Tennyson's 2-yard line.

Following a three-and-out on Tennyson's next possession, Anderson and Williams hooked up again on 71-yard scoring strike to make the score 21-0 with 11:31 left in the half.

"We tried to put pressure on their quarterback," Tennyson coach Terry Smith said. "But (Williams) is a big time player and he will be playing on Saturdays."

Tennyson scored in the fourth quarter when Tristan Andrews found Larry Lloyd on a 40-yard double pass with 6:41 left in the game. Lancers quarterback Gilberto Magallanas threw a pass behind the line of scrimmage to Andrews, who then connected with Lloyd down the left sideline.

Miramonte's Anderson finished the game 14 of 28 passing for 260 yards and five touchdowns, including a 23-yard pass to Deutz with 9:42 left in the third quarter.
