El Camino might have the best 1-2 scoring punch in the Central Coast Section. Michael Smith and Elijah White went into Tuesday's game against Westmoor combining for 44.7 points per game.
They outdid themselves against the visiting Rams, combining for 54 points as El Camino romped to a 71-51 victory in a key Peninsula Athletic League North Division game in South San Francisco.
"We've played together for nine years,'' Smith said. "All the way back we played AAU with his father as our coach.''
The chemistry between the two is noticeable.
Smith, a 6-foot-3 forward who came in averaging 23.6 points per game, scored 28 Tuesday in a variety of ways, inside and out. He hit four 3-pointers and as the tallest player on the court had his way around the basket. He also had 10 rebounds.
Several of his baskets came off passes from White, the team's point guard, who was averaging 21.1 points per game before Tuesday, when he scored 26.
Westmoor (12-3, 1-2) never led. El Camino went on a 14-0 run late in the second quarter to blow the game open, going from a 22-18 lead to 36-18.
"I don't think we played as hard as we could've,'' Westmoor coach Herb Yaptinchay said. "Today it cost us. Smith and White are really talented. If you don't bring your 'A' game, you're in trouble. They wanted it more than we did.''
Wai Min led Westmoor with 20 points.
