With first place on the line Thursday, Logan McNerney's second-half goal was the difference as Leigh edged Mt. Pleasant 1-0 in a Blossom Valley Athletic League Mount Hamilton Division match.

David Poole assisted on McNerney's goal.

The victory was Leigh's sixth in a row and improved the Longhorns' record to 9-5-1 overall and 6-1-1 in the division.

For Mt. Pleasant (9-1-3, 6-1-1), the loss was its first this season and dropped the Cardinals into a first-place tie with Leigh.

Willow Glen 1, Santa Teresa 1: Santa Teresa's Eddie Ramirez scored a second-half goal as the host Saints (7-3-6, 4-1-3) tied Willow Glen (8-5-1, 2-4-1) in a BVAL Mount Hamilton Division match.

Santa Teresa remains third in the division, trailing only Leigh and Mt. Pleasant.

Girls soccer

Woodside 2, Menlo-Atherton 0: Gianna Rosati and Jillienne Aguilera scored to lead host Woodside to a Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division victory.

Woodside improved to 11-0-2, 6-0-1. Menlo-Atherton fell to 6-4-3, 4-3.

Carlmont 2, Terra Nova 1: Melissa Wood and Kayla Fong had second-half goals as Carlmont rallied to defeat Terra Nova in a PAL Bay match.

Carlmont improved to 9-2-2, 5-1-1; Terra Nova slipped to 5-5-2, 1-4-2.

Menlo School 1, Woodside Priory 0: Sienna Stritter scored early in the second half as Menlo finished the first half of West Bay Athletic League Foothill Division play with a win. The goal was Stritter's team-leading 10th, including seven in the past five matches.

The King's Academy 5, Notre Dame San Jose 0: Michelle Maemone scored two goals to help lead The King's Academy to a WBAL Foothill Division victory.

Tori Ramirez and Danyelle Allen added goals for the The King's Academy, which also got an own goal. The Knights improved to 4-4-3 overall, 2-1-3 division.

Girls basketball

Branham 54, Leigh 40: Taylor Morway scored 23 points and Regina Sankey added 18 on six 3-pointers to lead visiting Branham to a BVAL Mount Hamilton Division victory.

The victory improved Branham's record to 15-4, 5-4. Leigh is 9-10, 4-5.

Westmont 50, Santa Teresa 46: Savannah Scott scored 18 points and Erika Washer had 16 as Westmont (12-7, 5-4) edged Santa Teresa (12-7, 6-3) in a BVAL Mount Hamilton Division game.

Silver Creek 46, Prospect 36: Meileen Cereno-Martinez had 14 points, including four 3-pointers, to help lead Silver Creek (9-10, 4-5) to a victory in BVAL Santa Teresa Division play.
