PLEASANT HILL -- The Campolindo High boys volleyball team and its No. 1 East Bay ranking was put to the test early on, and the Cougars passed with flying colors.
Campolindo went on the road to take on No. 2 College Park, the winners of the UC Davis Tournament and perhaps the favorite in the North Coast Section's Division I, and earned an impressive 23-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-11 nonleague victory on Tuesday.
"We played pretty well for this being our first game," Campolindo coach Dave Chen said. "The guys don't know each other yet, and to come out and play like this is big."
Campolindo (1-0) had an incredibly balanced effort as four players had 10 or more kills and two had 15 or more assists.
Yize Dong led the Cougars with 17 assists and 10 kills, and Joe Worsley had 30 assists.
Ryan First, Michael Standring and Stephen Buhl combined for 33 kills.
The Falcons (5-1) looked sharp in closing out the first game as Alex Kalustian, who had nine kills in the game, had four in helping them rally from a 21-19 deficit.
