THE STAT LINE: The Cal-bound Bird scored a game-high 28 points, including six 3-pointers, in the Pride's 80-58 North Coast Section Division IV playoff win over Arcata. He then had 20 points and five rebounds in Salesian's 54-34 victory over Cardinal Newman in the NCS Division IV title game.

THE STAT LINE: Solari took sixth in his weight class at the state championships in Bakersfield to become the highest placer from Contra Costa County this year and earning a state medal for the first time in his career.
Gabby Gaines
SCHOOL: McClymonds
SPORT: Basketball
YEAR: Junior
POSITION: Shooting guard
THE STAT LINE: Gaines had 12 points, including three 3-pointers, in the Warriors' 47-40 victory over Oakland Tech in the Oakland Section title game. It was the McClymonds girls team's first section title since 1976. She also had seven assists and seven points in McClymonds' 71-43 semifinal victory over Oakland.
Angela Rigo

POSITION: Point guard
THE STAT LINE: Rigo led the No. 3 seeded Mustangs to a 50-42 victory over top-seed Heritage in the NCS Division I championship game with 15 points. Rigo also piloted the Mustangs to a 47-33 win over East Bay Athletic League-rival and No. 2 seed Amador Valley in the Division I semifinals.

PARIS AUSTIN, Bishop O'Dowd, basketball, So. -- Austin scored a career-high 27 points, including three 3-pointers and 10 for 12 from the free-throw line, in the Dragons' 89-78 victory over El Cerrito in the NCS Division III championship game. He also had 12 points in O'Dowd's 69-46 win over Sir Francis Drake in the semifinals.
TYLER VISTALLI, Deer Valley, baseball, Sr. -- The Wolverines won their season opener 8-0 over Monte Vista thanks to Vistalli's gem. The senior allowed just one hit in the complete game, striking out 10.
GIRLS
NINA BESSOLO, Valley Christian, basketball, Fr. -- The freshman forward came up big in the Vikings' run to the NCS Division V championship with 20 points and 12 rebounds in Valley Christian's 51-40 win over International in the title game. She also had 18 points and nine rebounds in a semifinal win over Urban.
ARIELL BOSTICK, Bishop O'Dowd, Sr. -- The San Diego State-bound Bostick had 13 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in the Dragons' 77-48 victory over Miramonte in the NCS Division III championship game. She also had 10 points in O'Dowd's 85-21 semifinal win over Kennedy-Richmond.
