Granada baseball wallops Wildcats

  • The Granada baseball team routed host Dougherty Valley in a 13-2 nonleague win on March 5. The Matadors' Casey Soltis lined a two-run home run to right, where there was no fence. The game was played on the Wildcats' junior varsity diamond because a pipe was leaking water on the varsity diamond. The Matadors, who improved to 3-0, broke the game open with a five-run third inning, in which they batted around. Designated hitter Craig Woolson doubled and scored in the second inning and singled and scored in the third, adding an RBI sacrifice fly to center in the fourth. Soltis and Jordan Thrailkill also had two hits apiece. Draco Roberts singled for the Wildcats in the second, but was left stranded at second after advancing on a wild pitch.

    Foothill tennis wins thriller over SRV

  • The Foothill High boys tennis team bested San Ramon Valley 5-4 in a battle of unbeaten teams in the East Bay Athletic League on March 7. The Falcons, who improved to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in league, relied on depth, sweeping the bottom three singles matches and taking two of three in doubles. At No. 2 doubles, The Falcons' Eric Mouch and James Angst prevailed in a thriller, 6-7 (6), 7-6 (2), 7-6 (4). At No. 3 doubles, Foothill's Victor Todor and Patrick Ronan won in straight sets. The Wolves, who swept the top three singles matches, fell to 2-1 in the EBAL.

  • Junior AJ Velasquez hit a solo home run in the third inning, and California scored five in the fourth to take a 7-1 nonleague win over visiting Encinal on March 5. Travis Roberts, Nick Alman and Shaylor Giberti each had two hits for the Grizzlies, who also beat Freedom 14-5 on March 6 for their third straight victory to begin the season.

    Monte Vista tennis topples DLS

  • The powerful Monte Vista tennis team beat De La Salle 6-3 in EBAL action on March 7 as Anthony Lim, Jacob Serpa, Adrian Sivouica and Dylan Chan all prevailed at Nos. 2-5 singles. Mustangs top player Michael Feldman lost a tough battle against Alex Bakos 7-5, 6-7 (7-2), 7-5.

    Moses leads Dublin in NorCal win

  • Milan Moses had a game-high 17 points and six steals to pace the Dublin girls basketball team in a 48-41 win over Chico in the first round of the Division II Northern California regional playoffs on March 6. Sophomore center Jojuan Carrington had 10 points and 11 rebounds. The Gaels bowed out of the tournament with a loss against No. 1 seed St. Francis-Mountain View in the quarterfinals on March 9.

  • Queen of the Mountain tournament, softball, March 14-16 -- Several of the East Bay's best teams will converge onto Pleasanton Sports Park (5800 Parkside Dr., Pleasanton) for the three-day tournament.

  • Cameron Moses, Dublin boys basketball -- Moses had 21 points, going 9 for 9 from the free throw line to help lead the Gaels to a 86-75 win over El Camino in the second round of the Division II NorCal playoffs on March 9.

  • Josh Stevens, Valley Christian baseball -- The junior right-hander allowed one hit with six strikeouts over four shutout innings in an 11-0 win over Fremont Christian on March 4. He also doubled, tripled, and had three RBIs and three runs scored.

  • Sun Woo Choi, Dublin golf -- Choi fired a 35 at Orinda Country Club as the unbeaten Gaels beat Miramonte 196-203 in their Diablo Foothill Athletic League opener on March 6.

  • Cory Frederickson, Foothill volleyball -- The middle hitter had 19 kills and four aces in a 3-1 nonleague win over Washington on March 7 as the Falcons improved to 2-0.
