Granada a perfect '10' The Granada High baseball team improved to 10-0 overall with a 5-1 win over Albany on March 30 in the first round of the Alhambra Bulldog Classic. The Matadors' Casey Soltis was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, and winning pitcher Ryan Flayler tossed five shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out five.

Dons stay unbeaten with narrow win The Amador Valley High baseball team capped an unbeaten first week of league play with a 3-2 win over visiting De La Salle on March 28. Dons catcher Daniel Jackson blasted a two-run home run to break a 1-1 tie with the Spartans, and Jake Dronkers fired a complete-game win.

Amador Valley wallops Carondelet The unbeaten Amador Valley High softball team rode the arm of junior Johanna Grauer in a 6-0 win over Carondelet on March 28 in the EBAL. Grauer struck out 14, walked none and allowed one hit, improving to 6-0 on the season. Junior catcher Victoria Molina was 2 for 3 with a two-run home run in the fifth inning.

Mustangs start fast in EBAL play The Monte Vista High baseball team opened East Bay Athletic League play with wins over California (4-0) and Livermore (6-1). Mustangs sophomore outfielder Cameron Bothwell upped his average to .400 with two hits against the Cowboys on March 29. Mason Melin and Brendan Landman were each 2 for 3 with RBIs against the Grizzlies on March 27. Monte Vista, Granada and Amador Valley entered the week tied for first place with 2-0 EBAL records.
On deck Livermore Stampede, softball, April 4-6 -- EBAL teams Livermore, Granada, Foothill, California and Monte Vista and will compete in the prestigious three-day event, which also includes Freedom, Heritage and Archbishop Mitty-San Jose.
Stars of the week Matt Esparza, Amador Valley track and field -- He had a solid winning mark in the shot put of 59 feet, 1/4 inches at the Stanford Invitational on March 30, also placing third in the discus at 158-0. Andy Francis, Foothill tennis -- Francis prevailed 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, helping the Falcons improve to 8-1 in the EBAL and 13-3 overall with an 8-0 win over Granada on March 28. Daniel Jackson, Amador Valley baseball -- Jackson, a senior catcher, hit a two-run home run to break a 1-1 tie against De La Salle in a 3-2 Dons' win on March 28. He also had a two-run triple in a 5-0 win over Livermore on March 27. Kevin McManus, Amador Valley lacrosse -- McManus had a great all-around effort in the Dons' 18-15 win over Livermore in the EBAL on March 29, finishing with four goals, two assists, seven ground balls and 11 face-off wins. McManus also had nine face-wins in an 11-5 nonleague victory over Las Lomas on March 26. Jacob Payne, Granada baseball -- He upped his pitching record to 5-0 with six strong innings in the unbeaten Matadors' 5-2 win over Foothill, striking out six, scattering four hits and allowing one run. Samantha Salustri, Amador Valley softball -- Salustri was 1 for 2 with two RBIs in the Dons' 6-0 win over Carondelet on March 28. Pamela White, Granada track and field -- The freshman had wins in the 100 meters and 200 in the Matadors' 68-68 tie with Amador Valley in EBAL action on March 28. Cameron Bothwell, Monte Vista baseball -- Bothwell was 2 for 4 with two RBI as the Mustangs improved to 3-4 overall and 2-0 in the EBAL with a 6-1 win over Livermore on March 29. Sarah Weber, Monte Vista softball -- She was 4 for 4 with three runs scored and an RBI as the Mustangs trounced Livermore 8-2 on March 28 in EBAL action.
