LAFAYETTE -- Tied atop the Diablo Foothill Athletic League standings in the early going, the Acalanes High boys volleyball team was looking to stay unbeaten in league play at home on Wednesday night.

Dougherty Valley, on the other hand, had its own plans, and they did not include falling two games behind in the league race. The Wildcats made sure that did not happen with 25-19, 25-13, 25-23 DFAL win.

The Wildcats (12-7, 2-1 DFAL) were impressive in the road win, and along with the Dons (4-4, 2-1 DFAL), are a game behind league-leading Campolindo.

"It was big," Dougherty Valley coach Ray Montalvo said. "After two and a half weeks off and coming back playing a good athletic team, getting a win in three was a great result."

The first and second games may have been won fairly easily, the second easier than the first, but the home team wasn't going to go down without a fight and Dougherty Valley had to fight back to complete the sweep.

The Wildcats trailed 22-20 as the Dons looked to keep the match alive, but two kills from Alex Wilson gave the visitors their first lead of the set, 23-22, and his 11th and final kill of the game helped put it away.
