James Gaffey's single in the bottom of the seventh inning drove in the game's only run as Bellarmine College Prep edged Palo Alto 1-0 in a nonleague baseball game Thursday.

It was an impressive bounce-back victory for Bellarmine, which lost at St. Francis 11-0 in a West Catholic Athletic League game two days earlier.

Justin Calomeni, Conor Ridley and Joe Schymeinsky combined for the shutout.

Sequoia 16, South San Francisco 0: Zane Gelphman pitched five shutout innings and hit a three-run home run to pace Sequoia (9-8-1, 5-1) to the Peninsula Athletic League Ocean Division victory. Junior third baseman Liam Clifford also hit a three-run homer for the Cherokees.

Leland 10, Leigh 0: Two days after losing to Santa Teresa, Leland roared back with a five-inning rout of Leigh in a matchup between two of the area's top teams.

Lexi Belligan had two hits, including a double, and Holly Geranen allowed just three hits as Leland improved to 16-2, 5-1 in the Blossom Valley Athletic League Mount Hamilton Division.

Leigh dropped to 14-4, 5-1.

"We're on spring break and had a little slip up," Leland coach Joe Gron said. "They came out Wednesday (at practice) and I kind of challenged them and they came out focused. It was definitely a good bounce-back game."
