MILL VALLEY -- Darren Williams pitched a two-hitter and Ted Medina and Pablo Artero each drove in a run as the 10th-seeded John F. Kennedy High-Fremont baseball (13-12) defeated No. 7 Tamalpais (16-11) 2-0 in the first round of the North Coast Section Division III baseball playoffs on Tuesday.

Williams allowed singles in the first and sixth innings and retired 12 batters in a row at one stretch for the Titans, who will play second-seeded Sir Francis Drake-San Anselmo on Saturday night in San Rafael.

"Darren came out and pitched a heck of a game," Kennedy coach Kevin Lydon said. "That's the first game he's thrown seven innings all year, so that was very much a surprise."

"My fastball and my curveball were working," Williams said. "I tried to get in my split-finger a couple times but that wasn't working very well. ... This was the best game I pitched this year. This was probably my best game in a long time."
