THE STAT LINE: Farinaro, who has signed with UCLA, hurled a two-hitter with nine strikeouts and allowed only one runner to third after the first inning in an 11-1 victory over Valley Christian in the North Coast Section Division V championship game. He also hit a double and scored a run in the win.

Johnny York

SCHOOL: Acalanes

SPORT: Baseball

YEAR: Senior

POSITION: Pitcher

THE STAT LINE: York accomplished a rare feat with a perfect game with 15 strikeouts in the Dons' 1-0 win over Sonoma Valley in the semifinals of the NCS Division III playoffs en route to their third consecutive section title.

Kelly Drake

SCHOOL: Concord

SPORT: Softball

YEAR: Junior

POSITION: Pitcher

THE STAT LINE: Drake played a big role in Concord's NCS Division II championship, using her arm and bat. She allowed two runs on six hits and went 2 for 3 with four RBIs in a 9-2 win over Clayton Valley Charter in the title game. In the semifinals, Drake pitched a 1-0 shutout against top-seeded Petaluma.

SPORT: Softball

YEAR: Senior

POSITION: Pitcher

THE STAT LINE: Garza fired a three-hitter with five strikeouts and also drove in the lone run in a 1-0 victory over California in the NCS Division I semifinals, then threw a six-hitter with eight strikeouts as the Colts beat Freedom 4-1 in the championship game.

BOYS

KEVIN FLEMER, St. Mary's, baseball, Sr. -- The Oregon State-bound Flemer went 4 for 4 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored, including the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh inning, in a 7-6 victory over Piedmont in the NCS Division IV championship game.

MARQUIS MORRIS, De La Salle, track and field, Jr. -- Morris won the state championship in the 110-meter high hurdles in 13.90 seconds. Though he lost the lead briefly in the middle of the race, he rallied to win by .18 seconds.

GIRLS

KORTNI SMYERS-JONES, San Leandro, track and field, Sr. -- Smyers-Jones placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles final at the state championships with a time of 14.05 seconds. She also ran a leg for the Pirates' 400 relay team that placed third (46.57).

SHELLEY SUHLING, Campolindo, softball, Sr. -- Suhling's extra-inning home run was the difference in a 3-2 road win over Eureka in the NCS Division III semifinals. Then, in the Cougars' 4-3 win over Terra Linda-San Rafael in the title game, she didn't allow an earned run. Suhling struck out 16 total in the two wins.
