The Matadors kicked a 27-yard field goal with 10:40 left to go ahead for good after recovering a fumble deep in host Golden Valley territory on Thursday.

Jacob Shinnick's short touchdown run with about two minutes left allowed for some breathing room at the end for the Matadors (2-1).

Casey Soltis scored on a 7-yard run on the Matadors opening possession, but Golden Valley (0-3) evened the score on a long touchdown pass in the second quarter. The score remained tied 7-7 at the half.

Golden Valley briefly held a 14-7 lead on a 32-yard run by Ty Jones in the third quarter. Granada responded soon after on a Shinnick touchdown run, and the score was again tied after three quarters.
