ORINDA -- The best answer the Miramonte High football team could find for Eric Haynes and the Northgate offense in Saturday's North Coast Section Division II quarterfinal?

Just keep scoring.

Miramonte struggled to slow Haynes, who rushed for 372 yards and five touchdowns, but Northgate had an even tougher time with the Matadors' dynamic offense.

Led by Drew Anderson's 358 passing yards and six touchdowns, Miramonte held off the Broncos to win a shootout 66-48 and move on to next Friday's semifinals against No. 2 seed and defending champion Clayton Valley Charter.

Anderson connected with his younger brother, Ryan, for three touchdowns, including a 23-yard score just 23 seconds before half that sent Miramonte into the locker room with a 31-21 lead.

The Matadors pushed their lead to 38-21 by scoring on the first possession of the second half, and had at least a 10-point advantage the rest of the way.

"We just kept the pressure on," Miramonte coach Jack Schram said. "Drew was on tonight... Just an amazing game and I'm proud of the way our team kept in there and executed."

The No. 6 Broncos (9-3) and No. 3 Matadors (10-2) combined for over 1,000 yards. Northgate actually outgained Miramonte 594-484, but never led.

After Haynes cut the deficit to 38-28 in the third quarter, the Broncos forced a rare punt. But it was muffed, and the Matadors recovered. Ray Clark (103 yards) rushed for the first of his two touchdowns six plays later, and Miramonte was never stopped again.

Will Fuller caught seven passes from Drew Anderson for 108 yards and Ryan Anderson finished with four catches for 112 yards. Ryan Anderson's fine night helped fill the void left by top receiver Dominic Paoletti, who left with an injury soon after returning a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter.

The Broncos attempted onside kicks almost exclusively while playing from behind in the second half, but were never successful.

Northgate quarterback Kyle Austin passed for 165 yards a touchdown.
