Berkeley High football star Michael Lazarus made an oral commitment to Fresno State Wednesday night.
The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Lazarus said that Fresno State showed lots of interest since offering him a scholarship on May 7.
"They have never stopped calling me and they have been checking in with my mom. They showed that they really wanted me and I was their main priority, and that's what got them my full respect and love," Lazarus said.
"They showed me a more brighter side than just coaching football. They showed me a family and helping each other," Lazarus aid. "That's the main key of the whole thing. I want to go to a place where I feel comfortable with everybody, not just the players."
Also, Lazarus said that the fact that Fresno isn't too far from home and his mom Neesa was a factor in his decision. Lazarus took an official visit to Fresno State last weekend.
Lazarus, ranked as a three-star inside linebacker by rivals.com, said that he seriously considered Arizona State before choosing the Bulldogs. He had 17 sacks in the Yellowjackets' 10-game season this year, according to Berkeley coach James Barnes.
