Foothill upends Oakland in MLK

  • Caroline McMorrow had a game-high 20 points as the Foothill High girls basketball team topped Oakland 59-56 on Jan. 18 in the MLK Jr. Classic. Marianne Fernandez, who had four 3-pointers, and Emily Barrett each had 15 points for the Falcons, who won their third straight game.

    Mustangs finally fall

  • The Carondelet basketball team rallied from a four-point halftime deficit to hand Monte Vista its first loss of the season 74-58 on Jan. 17. Senior Madi Burroughs led the Mustangs with 17 points.

  • The Granada boys basketball team beat Amador Valley 57-43 on Jan. 17, as Luis Ramirez led the balanced Matadors with 15 points. Center Taylor McNeill had 14 points and Curtis Wigginton had nine.

    Livermore boys get first EBAL win

  • Livermore earned its first EBAL victory of the season with a 74-57 win over California on Jan. 17. Austin Medeiros had a game-high 19 points for the Cowboys, and James Dayton added 17 points. Livermore improved to 10-5 overall and 1-3 in the EBAL. Senior guard Jordan Farrell led the Grizzlies with 17 points.

    Granada girls best Amador Valley

  • Junior Delaney Gill-Summerhauser had a game-high 24 points, including four 3-pointers, helping the Granada girls basketball team to a 70-61 win over host Amador Valley on Jan. 17. Hannah Mata had 11 points and seven rebounds for the Matadors, and Kaylie Long had six points and six rebounds. The Dons' Courtney Seams had 17 points.

    Monte Vista tops DLS

  • Monte Vista High star Spencer Rust scored the go-ahead basket and blocked a shot by Devin Asiasi in the final seconds, giving the Monte Vista boys basketball team a thrilling 41-38 win over De La Salle on Jan. 17. Trevor John had 15 points to lead the Mustangs, who improved to 16-0 overall and 4-0 in the EBAL.

    Wolves wallop Foothill

  • Jerry Karczewski had eight 3-pointers and a game-high 26 points as the San Ramon Valley boys basketball team routed Foothill 74-34 to improve to 14-2 overall and 3-1 in the EBAL. Austin Henderson had four 3-pointers and 15 points. Tanner Wiese led the Falcons with 13 points.

  • Dominik Katunaric, Dublin soccer -- Katunaric, a 5-foot-7 senior, had a hat trick in the Gaels' 4-1 win over Dougherty Valley on Jan. 17 in the Diablo Foothill Athletic League.

  • Jerry Karczewski, San Ramon Valley basketball -- Karczewski had eight 3-pointers and 26 points as the Wolves rolled over Foothill.

  • Acaciah Glaze, Athenian girls basketball -- Glaze had a game-high 22 points as the Owls beat Redwood Christian 41-37 to improve to 3-1 in Bay Counties League-East action on Jan. 16.
