Amador Valley gets big win over DLS The Amador Valley High boys soccer team earned its fourth East Bay Athletic League win in five games with a 2-1 win over De La Salle on Jan. 30. The Dons' win kept them in a tie for third place in the league standings with San Ramon Valley, six points behind leader Monte Vista. It was Amador Valley's second win this season over the five-time defending North Coast Section champion Spartans. Before this season, the Dons had only one win against De La Salle in school history. The Dons scored early as Tyler Pangia easily footed a Pierre Marie cross into the box in the ninth minute. After withstanding a storm from De La Salle, Danny O'Lenic scored in the 55th minute to give the Dons some insurance. The Spartans continued to dominate possession after the score and got a 74th-minute goal from Val Huerta, but they couldn't get the equalizer.

Lewis' two goals power SRV past Cal Melissa Lewis scored twice for the San Ramon Valley girls soccer team in its 2-1 EBAL win over California on Jan. 30. Both of the senior's goals came in the second half, as she scored in the 52nd and 69th minutes. Morgan McGarry provided both assists for San Ramon Valley, which improved to 13-0-5 overall and 7-0-3 in league play.
Monte Vista knocked from unbeaten ranks San Ramon Valley High guard Jerry Karczewski hit a 3-pointer with 4.1 seconds left in overtime to give the Wolves a thrilling 59-56 EBAL win over previously unbeaten Monte Vista on Jan. 28. San Ramon Valley 6-foot-10 center Gregg Polosky banked in a shot at the final buzzer in regulation to tie the score 50-50 and force overtime. The Wolves, who improved to 16-3 overall and 5-2 in the EBAL, limited Mustangs standout guard Trevor John to five points. Karczewski had a game-high 19 points, Polosky had 13 and David Gunn 12 for the Wolves. The Mustangs, who had won 18 straight before the loss to their rivals, were paced by Grant Jackson's 16 points and Spencer Rust's 13.
Strong start lifts Grizzlies The California girls basketball team took a seven-point lead at halftime and never looked back in a 51-45 EBAL win over Amador Valley on Jan. 31. Janelle Suico scored 18 points in the win, which ended the Grizzlies' two-game losing skid. Olivia Christiansen scored 13 points to lead Amador Valley.
Dougherty Valley stays perfect in DFAL The Dougherty Valley wrestling team won 11 of 14 matches to earn a 54-15 dual meet win over Miramonte on Jan. 30 to improve to 5-0 in league meets this season. With a dual meet win over Acalanes this week, the Wildcats would clinch the DFAL title outright for the first time in the program's brief history.
On deck Mission San Jose Invitational, wrestling, Feb. 7-8, all day -- The final big meet before the postseason attracts some of the area's top wrestlers to Mission San Jose High in Fremont. Finals are scheduled for 6 p.m. on Feb. 8.
