DANVILLE -- Spencer Rust scored 32 points on 11 of 12 shooting from the floor to lead the host Monte Vista High boys basketball team to a 72-47 win over McClymonds on Tuesday in the CIF Division I Northern regional semifinals.

In a rematch of the North Coast Section Division I championship, Monte Vista will face Freedom on Saturday in the regional final at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Rust was dominant all night, taking passes from teammates as he cut into the lane for the finish. In addition, he made 10 of 11 free throws and grabbed seven rebounds.

Grant Jackson scored six points for Monte Vista (30-1), but pulled down 13 rebounds and handed out six assists.

McClymonds' Deion Ellis, Most Valuable Player of the Oakland Athletic League, scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds, but the Mustangs defense smothered him most of the night. Ellis didn't score his first basket until midway through the second quarter. He missed his first six field goal attempts and two of those were blocked.

"Deion is a great player," Rust said. "He's strong, he's aggressive. Basically our plan was give him a little space, force him to shoot, go low to the key, make him see help and we were able to slow him down early on."

Monte Vista scored the first 11 points of the game and built a 15-2 lead as McClymonds (21-9) missed 13 of its first 14 shots. The Warriors were 18 of 59 for the game.

Freedom trailed 18-12 after the first quarter but took a 37-35 lead at halftime. It outscored Jesuit 19-10 in the third quarter and was never seriously threatened again as the Falcons advanced to the regional title game for the first time in school history.
