De La Salle High's Simba Short doesn't think he'll be too bothered by the cold winters. There are too many other pluses at Northwestern to make up for the weather.
The junior linebacker will be headed east in a year after making his commitment to the Big 10 school on Thursday.
"It's a great academic school first of all," Short said of Northwestern. "When I realized that I'd be able to play Big 10 football and get a great education, it seemed like the perfect place for me."
Short, who also heavily considered UCLA, Duke and a few Ivy League schools, visited the Northwestern campus in January.
"I thought it would be deathly cold but it wasn't that bad," Short said. "It's pretty far away from home, but I think it'll be a good experience."
Short expects to play outside linebacker in college. He had 70 tackles for De La Salle last season, a number ranked fourth on the team even though he missed two games with an injury.
