OAKLAND -- An Antioch man shot to death earlier this week at an East Oakland vigil for a homicide victim was identified Friday as Melvin Ewing, authorities said.
Ewing, 20, was shot about 8:56 p.m. Tuesday in the 5000 block of Melrose Avenue. He was with a group of about 20 people gathered to remember Oakland resident Ceejay Reed, 19, who died in a drive-by shooting April 26 on 53rd Street in North Oakland.
During that shooting, another 19-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman were also shot but will recover from their wounds, police said.
Police said they still aren't sure of motive for Ewing's shooting, in which no one else was injured and no arrests have been made.
Authorities said that even though Ewing had an Antioch address, he was know to visit Oakland frequently.
During the shooting on Tuesday, a nearby fire station had its windows shattered and firefighters were forced to dive for cover. Parked vehicles and houses were also hit by gunfire, police said.
