OAKLAND -- A 37-year-old man shot to death Tuesday afternoon in East Oakland has been identified as Steven Cotton.

The shooting happened about 2:30 p.m. in the 2300 block of 88th Avenue, near where Cotton was living with friends. Police said Cotton was walking on sidewalk when he was shot. He died at the scene.

Police don't have a motive and no arrests have been made.

The killing was Oakland's 53rd homicide of the year.
